Hold Your Peace (2011) , USA

Hold Your Peace is the story of Aiden, a man asked to be the best man at his ex-boyfriend's commitment ceremony. Rather than risk going alone, he finds the most unlikely of dates in his roommate's more 'stereotypical' friend, Lance. As time goes on, he discovers that things are far more complex than he thought he could handle. A gay romantic comedy with a lot of heart, it explores how we all decide who we're going to spend our lives with, and what happens when we try to deny what's really in our hearts.

Stadt Land Fluss , engl. Harvest (2011) , GERMANY

Marko is an apprentice working on a large agricultural complex in the Nuthe Urstromvalley district sixty kilometers south of Berlin. If he passes his final examinations he will be a fully-fledged farmer. That is, if he really wants to. But he’s not sure. He doesn’t have many friends outside the workplace and the eleven other apprentices see him as a rather uncommunicative guy and something of a loner. But when a new apprentice named Jacob joins them Marko slowly begins to come out of his shell. The two men get to know each other – during the harvest, whilst transporting the grain from the field, or removing calves from their mothers. But then, the two men escape to Berlin for a day and, suddenly nothing is the same any more. A tender relationship evolves. But neither of them has ever thought about how – and especially how openly – they want to live to live their lives.

Ausente, engl. Absent (2011) , ARGENTINA

Sebastiano teaches high school gym classes and coaches swimming. He’s got a job, a girlfriend, and a pretty normal life. But as young Martin starts to infiltrate Sebastiano’s life, his world will get turned upside down. Eerie from the first frame, this Hitchcockian thriller portrays sexual obsession with terrifying realism.
Martin’s manipulative ploys to get closer to Sebastiano succeed as he lies his way into spending the night at his coach’s apartment. The young man’s plans of entrapment are less than subtle, as he lies sprawled on the coach, barely clothed. And when Martin creeps into Sebastiano’s bedroom to touch him in his sleep, things really heat up. Sebastiano resists his charge’s advances, but in the process, his own sexuality comes into question. The two circle each other, one wary, the other sinister and persistent, until tragedy strikes. Toward the end, startling time jumps give us a twist that turns the tables. What we think we’ve seen may in fact bear little resemblance to an even more complicated reality.
Haunting, sexy, and beautiful: this is a fascinating and contemplative film. Director Marco Berger (Plan B) uses close-ups on details, which adds mystery and makes you wonder what you’re missing outside the frame. A frantic soundtrack drives the story forward as the characters’ lives reach a boil. The perfect film for anyone who prefers mind games in movies instead of real life.

The One (2011) , USA

Hunky Daniel couldn't have it better - great parents, a successful career as an investment banker and engaged to be married to the beautiful Jen. A perfect life...but there is this one temptation that may derail his hoped-for straight-and-narrow life and that comes in the form of Tommy, a charming former college classmate, now openly gay. After a few drinks, Daniel succumbs to his repressed desires and makes a one time "mistake." Soon after their initial tryst, the normally jaded Tommy falls head over heels in love, but Daniel wants nothing more of him or his dazzlingly seductive smile - he's back with Jen, determined to marry her. With Tommy's friends warning him against his involvement with a straight man and Daniel's pledge of heterosexually, it would seem that nothing will come of them...but love and lust has a way of messing up even the best laid plans of man. A refreshingly funny story of coming out as well as a belated coming-of-age tale that sparkles with witty dialogue and believable characters.

The Cost of Love (2011) , UK

Dale is a 28-year-old hustler in London who is always chasing the next thrill. He spends his days making fantasies come true for high-paying clients and his nights cruising parks and saunas for casual sex. Meanwhile, Dale's gender-bending friend Sean cares for his alcoholic mother while living a double life as a popular drag performer and Dale's childhood straight friend Raj announces that he is getting married. Now, Dale must face his conflicting feeling for Raj and decide just what it is he wants from life before the dangers of the street finally catch up with him.
Set in the culturally diverse neighborhood of Greenwich, London, The Cost of Love is a poignant anti-love story that captures the highs, lows and detours of modern-day relationships. With realist storytelling and wry humor, director Carl Medland illuminates the many prices we pay for both resisting and giving in to love.
